Rock and Roll is something that sometimes feels like a lost art form. Just focusing on a solid riff, catchy choruses, and a memorable album from start to finish. Thankfully, The New Roses is keeping the spirit of solid Rock And Roll alive. One More For The Road (available NOW through Napalm Records) shows off what is possible when you just focus on writing good songs, rather than all the extra fluff. I had the opportunity to ask frontman and guitarist Timmy Rough a few questions about everything you need to know about the band. Check it out!

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview! For those that are not familiar, describe The New Roses.

This is a straight up Rock and Roll band from Germany. Southern flavored, Blues rooted, makeup free, working class Rock.

The brand new album from The New Roses, One More For The Road comes out this Friday (August 25th) through Napalm Records. Describe how the new album came together.
We have been touring non stop since "Dead Man’s Voice“ came out early last year, so we had to write and conceptualize the new album on the road. It was a new experience for us and the spirit of being on the road all the time definitely rules the whole record.

How does it feel to have your second album through Napalm coming out?
It feels great. Napalm knows how to support bands beside the mainstream and they are not trying to chance us in any way.

You have released a few songs as singles from the self new album, how has the reception to them been so far?
It’s great. We released songs that have obvious country vibe, that is new for us, I would say. So we were exited about how our audience would feel about it. It seems like everybody is happy and especially "Life Ain’t Easy (For A Boy With Long Hair)" seems to be entertaining.

I really enjoy what I’m hearing from the new album. I really enjoy a solid, hard rockin’ album that focuses on hooks and melodies. Were there any ideas or directions you wanted to achieve with the new album, or did the songwriting just come naturally?
This record focuses on our live show. We wanted to add song to our live set that would bring new sounds, grooves and a whole lot of opportunities for our fans to sing along. And we also wanted to capture the feeling of being in motion and on the road all the time.

What do you feel are the most important tracks to you on One More For The Road and why?
The title song defiantly means a lot to us, because it really represents what we have experienced over the last years. You feel the ups and downs by only hearing the melody. "Life Ain’t Easy (For A Boy With Long Hair)“ is a funny song, but it also tells a story about how tough it all started out for us and all the musicians out there trying to make it. And I just can’t wait to kick your ass with "My Own Worst Enemy“.

How does it feel to have made it this far with The New Roses?
We’ve known each other for even more than ten years but we actually formed the band and released our first record in 2012/13. But we have seen so much and went through so many ups and downs that I could easily write a book about it already. Sometimes I still can’t believe I am actually doing now what I dreamed of as a kid. It’s just awesome!

How do you like/dislike about the current state of rock in 2017?
For me Rock and Roll has always been the same, It’s been always there for me when I needed something to party to or something to built me up in a dark episode of my life. I never really look around and question the state of Rock music. It’s what I grew up on and it’s what I grow old on. Everything else doesn’t matter to me. But one thing is for sure: There will always be Rock and Roll music.

What’s next for The New Roses?
I just hope that our fans will like "One More For The Road“ and that it will connect us to people that haven’t heard about us yet. We wanna travel the world and kick asses around the globe. So in one sentence: Just more of it!

What are you currently listening to?
On the bus we mostly listen to Country music at the moment. Montgomery Gentry, Hank Williams, Van Zant, Steve Earl and so on. And I personally love all the early soul artists like Solomon Burke, Wilson Picket, Sam Cook and stuff like that.

What do you like to do when you are not focusing on The New Roses?
Most of the time I’m outdoors having fun with some action sports like mountaineering and mountain biking. It’s a good contrast to the usual night life I’m living.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview. I am really enjoying what I am hearing from the album from The New Roses and really wish you guys the best. Before we wrap things up, is there anything else you would like to mention that I haven’t brought up yet?
We can’t wait to kick some American ass!
