I don't always have the time to be able to do single album reviews these days, but when I do, you know that album is going to be a great one.

When you have a band featuring the talents of past and present members of some of the best California metal bands around; you’re bound to expect some killer heavy metal to enjoy. That’s exactly what From Hell brought with their 2014 debut album Ascent from Hell. 6 years have past since this release and band has undergone some changes to become stronger than ever with Rats and Ravens. Building off the first album, Rats and Ravens filters their unique blend of Thrash Metal, Death Metal & even hints of Power Metal at times to make an unholy sound of metal that needs to be represented in 2020.

The artwork on this album is as beautiful as it is haunting setting the tone for what you are about to hear. Rats and Ravens is wonderfully dynamic in sound; from anthemic tunes like They Come at Night to the speedy and blast beat assaults of The Witch to the nearly 7 minute epic closer in Am I Dead, which is bound to be a new fan favorite. The production throughout has a gritty, raw, and sinister tone that perfectly captures the torment you hear in the lyrics. Of course, everyone in the band has their moments to shine with hell driven riffs and solos, blazing fast double bass, and vocals from frontman and guitarist, Sinn, can go from pure King Diamond worship to pure evil growls of the undead.

Overall, Rats and Ravens is a dirty and gritty hell ride that is well worth the price of admission No matter your taste in metal, you are bound to find something to love about From Hell. Check out Rats and Ravens when it comes out (date added here) and hear some of the most horrific and tantalizing metal you’ll hear to start off the 2020s.

From Hell- Rats and Ravens out May 22nd on Scourge Records
